A town hall meeting billed as a fight to save the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre has been called by Lovitta Foggo, Progressive Labour Party MP for St David’s.

Bermuda Hospitals Board has announced it intends to close down the East End medical facility, due to a combination of low use and high operating expenses.

However Ms Foggo, who will host tomorrow’s 7pm meeting at Clearwater Middle School, called the centre “an invaluable resource for residents of the East End”.

The Constituency 3 MP told The Royal Gazette there were petitions currently circulating in her community to keep the centre open.

“I would say I have in my possession right now about 1,200 signatures,” Ms Foggo said. “There are still quite a few papers out there.”

She said many across the community, including nurses, had approached her personally to say that Bermuda would benefit from keeping the centre open.

Added Shadow Health Minister Zane Desilva: “We can’t let the Government turn its back on the people of the East End. The people deserve to be consulted and considered before any decision is made on the Lamb Foggo Urgent Care Centre.”
