Brigades are a big help

Captain David Semos and Staff Sergeant Joshua Stephens, from Bermuda Boys' Brigade, presented Martha Dismont, executive director of the Family Centre, with six $100 gift certificates for Belco. The Family Centre gave the vouchers to six needy families.

Six needy families received help with their electricity bills this Christmas thanks to the efforts of youngsters who took part in a charity car wash.

The Bermuda Boys’ Brigade, along with the Church Girls’ Brigade, held the annual event on November 16 at St Paul’s Church car park in Paget and raised $600.

The Brigade bought six $100 Belco vouchers with the money and donated them to the Family Centre, which dished them out to six families in need.

“The support for needy families this year has been outstanding! Bermuda is a very generous, giving community,” Martha Dismont, executive director of The Family Centre, said.

“We are grateful to the Bermuda Boys’ Brigade and the church’s Girls’ Brigade for thinking of others at this time of year. This level of caring instils hope and demonstrates that our community, young and old, is committed to ensuring that needy families are not forgotten.”

The next car wash will be at the Brigade’s annual Valentine’s Fair on Saturday, February 15, 2014 from 9am to 4pm at St Paul’s car park in Paget.
