Man denies cannabis possession

A Southampton man has denied possessing more than 30g of cannabis and an assortment of paraphernalia intended for selling the drug.

John Phillip Sousa, 29, of South Road, is charged with possessing cannabis, possessing 34.72g of the drug with intent to sell, and having multiple articles intended for the sale and misuse of the drug. The articles are three packets of Rizzla rolling papers, a plastic bag containing further vacuum-sealed plastic bags, plastic sandwich bags, two metal grinders and two digital scales.

Prosecutor Maria Sofianos told Magistrates’ Court this morning that Mr Sousa was allegedly found with the drugs and equipment on August 7 last year.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Mr Sousa, who elected for a Magistrates’ Court trial, on $10,000 bail with one surety.

He will reappear for mention on April 15.
