Woman in court after alleged attack

A woman accused of attacking 30-year-old Alexandra Wheatley at a New Year’s Eve party has been charged with unlawful wounding.

British contract worker Natalie Simpson, 25, was not required to enter a plea when she appeared in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

A trial will be held in Supreme Court.

The alleged attack took at a Champagne Party on the lower floor of Pier 6 shortly before 1am on January 1, leaving Ms Wheatley in need of emergency facial surgery.

Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner released Ms Simpson on $5000 bail with one surety and ordered her to surrender all travel documents.

Ms Simpson is also required to report daily to the Hamilton Police Station, between 8am and 8pm.

She will appear for mention on January 21.
