New foldaway electric bike arrives on the Island

Photo by Glenn TuckerNiky Hiles sales and marketing manager at Windward Supplies Ltd is shown rolling out the Gocycle G2R - one of the world’s lightest electric assisted bikes and is about to be introduced to Bermuda.

It weighs less than 35lbs and can be ridden like a conventional bicycle with on-demand electric power or as a pedal-assisted bike capable of reaching speeds of 20 miles-per-hour.

What’s more, it can be dismantled to fit into a medium sized travel suitcase.

The Gocycle G2R is one of the world’s lightest electric assisted bikes and is about to be introduced to Bermuda.

“The bike is the most suitable thing ever for Bermuda,” said Gemma Hiles-Hopkins sales and marketing manager at Windward Supplies Ltd.

“This can be a commuting bike for work that folds up and sits by your desk.

“You can do 40 miles in distance which is Bermuda twice. But if you are under electric power only you can only do 20 miles.

“But the big thing is what happens in July and August is it’s hot and you do not want to get sweaty so you switch it to the electric mode.”

The Gocycle comes with a comparatively maintenance-free chain, gears and cables enclosed within the ultra-lightweight frame.

It has four different riding modes that can be customised with the Bluetooth App available on iOS and androids.

The bike has a sensor that operates a 250W power supply once the rider starts pedalling. The power-assistance can be used to varying degrees, depending on what the rider feels they need.

The top mode is where the real power kicks in. Providing the rider is using the pedals the bike will enter into its fully-powered state and help the rider reach their destination faster. The bike is fitted with hydraulic discs for increased safety, and its battery has a range of between 20 to 40 miles on a full charge.

And if you need to stow the bike away it can be disassembled within a minute and placed in a medium sized suitcase. Ms Hiles-Hopkins said the bike will be available from Windward Supplies in the near future.
