HSBC Bermuda backs volunteering website
The charity site Volunteer.bm, run by the Centre on Philanthropy to connect residents with their most ideal volunteering opportunities, is being backed by HSBC Bermuda — which now has 55 members of staff signed up.
There are currently 4,850 volunteers and 135 non-profit organisations registered with the site, which was launched in 2006.
HSBC offers cash donations to employees that log the most volunteer hours annually, with a total of $4,500 given out last year. Business analyst Cyril Whitter came top, with 213 hours given to the youth sports group Team Tuned Motorcycle Racing.
Mr Whitter plans to give his prize to the St John Ambulance.
Volunteer.bm allows companies to sign up teams via the Team Tracker Programme, enabling them to log the number of hours given to charity.
