Youth counselling expert to visit Island

A US expert in youth counselling will be in Bermuda this week to help professionals who work with troubled teenagers.

David Rotenberg of Caron — a US-based charity that provides treatment for addicts — will offer an “intensive” training programme for members of Bermuda Youth Counselling Services tomorrow and Friday.

Mr Rotenberg is recognised throughout the industry as an expert in treating co-occurring mental health disorders, relapse and family issues, especially related to adolescents and young adults.

He has pioneered innovative treatment approaches and developed gender-specific programmes that emphasise cultural literacy as a key element in adolescent and young adult addiction treatment.

Gita Blakeney Saltus, regional vice-president of Caron Bermuda, said: “The Caron Bermuda Board of Directors and I are delighted to be able to bring Dave to the Island to provide this tremendous opportunity for professional development to our long-standing partners at BYCS.

“Dave brings a wealth of experience and expertise from Caron Pennsylvania, and will no doubt provide a plethora of detail on the disease of addiction.

“This training is part of an ongoing collaboration between Caron Bermuda and BYCS with the provision of adolescent and family group programmes.”

In addition to the training course, Caron Bermuda will be hosting an evening reception and presentation by Mr Rotenberg at 6pm on Friday.
