A new online book club has partnered with The Bookmart to revamp its young adult (Y & A) section to encourage reading among teenagers.

Kids in Control Systems (KICS) Reviews by Blu is an online book club from iAspirations Limited which allows users to review popular literary titles on a scale from one to four. The Y & A section of The Bookmart will highlight the most well received books from the book club.

KICS members, who purchase from The Bookmart, will receive a ten percent discount.

“We are excited to have The Bookmart to assist us in providing avid teen readers a fun, exciting outlet to showcase and discuss books,” said Angela Young, founder and president of iAspirations Limited.

“The Y & A category is exploding on the literary scene and many of today’s Hollywood blockbusters are derived from Y & A titles.

“We want to help foster this segments love for reading.

“What I’m looking forward to doing is working with those teens who have a passion for reading,

“I want to give them a fun and exciting outlet because right now there’s really nothing out there available to them.”

Martin Buckley, Department Manager at The Bookmart, said “Parents invest quite a lot of time (into reading) when the child is younger but then the parents are not quite as familiar with the books that are available for teenagers because the market is evolving very quickly.

“I feel what this will highlight some key titles that they would find interesting and engaging and would continue to stimulate interest in reading.”

General Manager of Brown & Co. Nicole Warner said: “It is important that we encourage our young people to read.

‘After all, reading plays a critical role in a student’s academic success and beyond.”

The club is open to all those in the first year of Middle School or higher.

The club will have a summer ‘good read’ pick of ‘The Testing’ by Joelle Charbonneau from June 23 to August 20. Reactions to the book will be uploaded daily and KICS members will be allowed to comment on the postings. An ‘Oprah-style’ book club review of the book will take place on August 21 at the Bookmart.
