Alleged gunman granted bail

A Pembroke man charged with shooting at another man was granted bail when he appeared for mention in Magistrates’ Court this morning.

Michael Puckerin, 31, of Footbridge Lane, is accused of shooting at Damon Morris with a firearm on North Shore Road in Devonshire, on July 13.

He is also accused of assaulting Mr Morris and being in possession of a bladed article at the Mid Atlantic Boat Club.

Prosecutor Victoria Greening opposed bail being granted due to the severity of the alleged offences and the defendant’s possible gang connections.

However, Senior Magistrate Archibald Warner questioned the circumstantial evidence connecting the defendant to the shooting.

He said: “It sounds more like speculation.”

The court heard that further evidence is being compiled and results of the DNA analysis on the firearm are still being awaited.

Mr Warner set bail at $10,000 with one surety.

Bail was granted on the condition that Mr Puckerin report to Hamilton Police Station daily between 8am and 8pm, wear an electronic monitoring device and abide by a curfew from 10pm to 6am.
