Fake money warning

Counterfeit currency

Fake $100 and $50 notes are being circulated in the Island, according to police.

And they have warned that possessing or passing on counterfeit currency is a criminal offence, as well as making fake tender.

Police called on business and staff to “be vigilant” of the notes, bearing the serial numbers 242219 and A30763.

“If counterfeit cash is detected during a transaction, the person receiving the fake money should hold on to it, note the description of the individual who tendered it and contact police immediately,” a police spokeswoman added.

Suspicious cash can be reported at 295-0011 or via the independent and confidential Crime Stoppers hotline, 800-8477.
