With next week’s PGA Grand Slam impending for the Port Royal Golf Course, organisers have told fans that public transport will be the “fastest, most efficient way” to and from the venue.

The senior director of championships for the PGA of America, David Charles, said that wait times for shuttles buses from the parking to the greens would likely be longer than usual, due to this year’s extra demand for tickets.

Public buses on the number 7 and 8 routes will drop off fans directly in front of the golf course, eliminating the need to take a shuttle bus from the parking venue.

White Hill Field, just a few minutes west of Port Royal, will serve as the car park for all three days of the Grand Slam, which runs on Monday through Wednesday.

Shuttle buses will run between White Hill and Port Royal during the following times:

• Monday 9:15am — 6:30pm

• Tuesday 8:45am — 6:00pm

• Wednesday 8:15am — 6:00pm

Meanwhile, riders of motorcycles will be allowed to park a short distance from the entrance gate, at Death Valley.

Heightened ticket sales were attributed to PGA of America’s complimentary ticket offer to residents, made as “a gesture of gratitude for eight successful years of Grand Slam tournaments in Bermuda”.

This year’s PGA marks the last Grand Slam of Golf for the Island, Mr Charles said.

Friday marks the last day for residents to pick up free tickets at the pro shops of Port Royal and Turtle Hill Golf Courses.

The tournament, hosted by the Bermuda Tourism Authority, Port Royal Golf Course and the Fairmont Southampton, will be broadcast worldwide on TNT.
