Taking selfies is part of everyday life for many people ­— but it’s not often you can win prizes for them.

Elbow Beach Bermuda has launched a Selfie Contest, which asks residents and guests to snap photographs of themselves enjoying the hotel and then post them on to Instagram.

More than $1,000 worth of prizes are up for grabs for the three most creative photos.

The competition began yesterday and will run for the rest of the month, with the winners due to be announced on January 5.

“Selfies are a popular way for people to share experiences, so we thought a selfie contest would be a fun way for us to interact with guests and locals at the same time,” said Rehanna Palumbo, the director of sales and marketing at Elbow Beach.

“The contest is open to any of our Instagram followers and we encourage them to submit a creative selfie taken anywhere on our property, whether it’s on the beach, in the spa, in one of our beautiful rooms or even on the tennis court.

“We look forward to seeing the exciting photos of people enjoying Elbow Beach.”

To enter the contest, you must follow @elbowbeach on Instagram, take a selfie anywhere on the resort’s property and post it on the site using the hashtag #elbowselfie and tag @elbowbeach. Selfies past and present will be accepted.

The grand prize is a two-night stay for two at the resort with breakfast. Second prize is an 80-minute treatment at the spa, while third prize is $150 gift certificate for the Sea Breeze Lounge. One entry per person will be counted and private pages are not permitted.

The hotel is also offering a “selfie package”, with ocean view accommodations for three nights with breakfast, a three-hour tour of the Island, and a welcome amenity. Rates start at $575 per night.
