Shooting in Warwick

Two gunmen on a motorcycle fired at a home in Warwick last night.

No one was injured in the incident, which took place as the Island celebrated the announcement that Bermuda will host the America’s Cup in 2017, with crowds gathered in Hamilton for a celebratory street party.

With the world’s eyes watching following the successful bid to bring international sailing’s biggest event here, gun violence once again reared its ugly head.

Bermuda Police Service confirmed it had been alerted to an incident in the area of Cedar Hill and Tribe Road at about 5.30pm.

It is believed two men on a motorcycle fired a weapon at a residence in the area before fleeing the scene. The shooting was the fourth firearms attack on the Island within the past month.

Remembrance Day was spoiled by two incidents — at the National Sports Centre and Somerset Cricket Club.

Four people were injured the latter attack, and one man has appeared before the courts charged with the shooting.

A week later, gunfire was heard on Mount Hill in Pembroke, near the Berkeley Institute, at about 4.30pm. Three people were arrested that same night.

Police are appealing for witnesses to last night’s shooting, and anyone who may have seen anyone acting suspiciously in the Cedar Hill area, to call 295-0011 or the confidential Crime Stoppers hotline on 800-8477.
