Bermudian to appear in Canada court

A Bermudian is due to appear in Canada’s courts in the aftermath of several people being detained by Canadian authorities who boarded a WestJet flight from Toronto on Sunday.

According to the Bermuda Police, another local has already been brought to court after being arrest in “a similar incident” a week before the incident on flight 2710, as it prepared to leave Pearson International Airport.

In a statement to The Royal Gazette, the Canada Border Services Agency highlighted its role in intercepting “illegal drugs and other contraband”. So far, Canadian authorities have not officially named the individual arrested.

Local police did not comment further, but said that the two cases underscored “the ongoing cooperation between local and Canadian authorities”.

Other passengers from the flight told this newspaper that 11 were reported by the pilot to have been taken off the plane.
