Toys have been donated to children living in a housing shelter by the Open Your Heart Foundation.

Representatives from the group presented Christmas gifts to every child under 12 at the Gulfstream emergency shelter in St David’s last Friday.

The foundation, which was formed to provide support for children in the community, usually hosts two free community events each year on Boxing Day and Good Friday.

But this year, due to an abundance of donated gifts for the Boxing Day event, the foundation decided to pass on the surplus presents to children at Gulfstream.

The group’s Tianna Saltus said: “Open Your Heart would like to show our appreciation for the people who have become as passionate as us and helped to make these events possible.

“They include: Correia Construction Ltd, Play Games Entertainment, Barritt’s, Island Construction Co Ltd, The Coalition For The Protection Of Children and Team Street Safe, Crisson Construction Ltd, 24/7 Ink, 2nd Glance Hair Salon, Somerset Cricket Club, Island Rangers Football Club, Willow Cuts Cricket Club and Woodys Bar and Restaurant.”

This year’s Boxing Day extravaganza will be held at Ireland Rangers club in Dockyard from 10am to 6pm.

The event will include food, beverages, fun castles, face painting, six-a-side soccer and other activities.
