Campbell’s holiday generosity rubs off

A local chef and his fiancée donated $1,000 today to a society that provides food for the Island’s needy.

Michiko Campbell, owner of Chiko’s Smokey Rub, and Sherelle Simons gave the proceeds of their Christmas Eve charity event to the Eliza DoLittle Society.

“We decided to donate to a local charity and choose the Eliza DoLittle Society when we found out that their cause was similar to ours,” Mr Campbell said. “We were trying to feed the homeless on Christmas Eve and they feed the homeless every day.”

The couple fed 452 people at the Chiko’s Smokey Rub Christmas Eve Charity Event and collected $852 in a donation box that was set up outside the tent.

Mr Campbell, who is also a lance corporal in the Bermuda Regiment, and Ms Simons, a graphic designer, decided to add $148 of their own funds to bring the total up to four figures.

Margaret Ward, executive director of the Eliza Dolittle Society, said: “I really admire and want to support young Bermudians who are making a place for themselves in the business world and in the process are thinking of others.

“His donation is admirable and greatly appreciated. We look forward to working with him in the future.”
