Power out after taxi hits utility pole

A taxi driver has escaped injury after losing control of his vehicle and hitting a utility pole in Devonshire, knocking out electricity in the area.

The accident happened on South Road, 200 metres west of Brighton Hill, at 10.20pm.

The car overturned in the road but the driver, a 40-year-old Devonshire man, was unharmed and was not transporting passengers at the time, a police spokesman said.

No other vehicles were involved.

An investigation is under way and Belco is working to restore power.
