Two outstanding drama students have been awarded the Bermuda Shakespeare Schools Festival scholarships.

Rowan Vickers, who is studying for a Bachelor of Fine Arts at The Julliard School, and Marcus Smith, who is studying theatre at New York University, will both receive $5,000 towards their ongoing education.

Since 2008, the BSSF has been enabling high school students to perform the works of William Shakespeare in a professional theatre.

Each year, the BSSF invites applications for scholarship support from any student who has participated in one of its annual Shakespeare Schools Festivals.

The scholarship can either be applied to academic studies in the dramatic arts or for support to complete drama courses or workshops.

A spokesperson from the BSSF said: “We have watched both [students] develop into exemplary performers over the years and are proud of the consistently high grades and community contributions each of them have made during their studies. We look forward to seeing their performing arts careers blossom.”
