The Chewstick Foundation is to host an intimate fundraising concert for the charity of the late Neil Burnie, who died in a diving accident a year ago.

Dr Burnie was a veterinarian with Endsmeet Animal Hospital and a passionate ocean conservationist. He was also a keen musician.

The event is due to take place on November 11, which is the anniversary of Dr Burnie’s death.

Milton Raposo, who has organised the concert, said: “Since Neil was such a superb musician, we want to gather a couple of bands including Neil’s former band Bones and some musical luminaries.

“It is a remembrance of his death and we want to do something small and informal.

“Neil was also a big Chewstick supporter and would often just turn up to events and start performing. Everyone knew how passionate Neil was and he was on a mission to show us everything that was wonderful about the ocean.

“His charity also has an educational component to it.

“The idea is to carry out Neil’s mission, which was to always show us the wonders of the ocean and to assist anybody who wishes to follow in his mission.

“It will be a fun event with lots of dancing and everyone will have a good time.”

Funds raised will go towards the Neil Burnie Foundation, which has been a registered charity since the summer.

Donations of $20 will be welcomed at the door, which opens at 7pm, while the show begins at 8pm.

Chewstick is now located at 81 Front Street.

Bermuda veterinarian Dr Neil Burnie is shown inspecting a shark for a scene in the series "Ocean Vet", a 12-part series to be filmed in Bermuda over the course of the Spring and Summer and set to be broadcast in 2014. "Ocean Vet" is produced by UK-based gassProductions.
