Miss Bermuda off to a flying start in China

Bermuda’s Alyssa Rose has got off to a great start at the Miss World competition in China.

Ms Rose placed in the top 25 for each of the first two rounds of preliminary challenges that assess contestant’s fitness and talent.

“She is having an absolute ball over there,” said her father, David Rose.

“She is loving every minute. It’s a really tough competition with lots of travelling involved, so to come in the top 25 for the first two rounds is amazing.

“She phoned me this morning (Tuesday) to tell me she was in the top 25 again for sport and fitness.

“I have tears in my eyes every day at the moment. I cannot express just how proud I am of her.

“She is going to battle all the way and she is right up there at the moment.” Contestants in the Miss World competition take part in a series of five challenges that look at fitness, talent, charity work, multimedia awareness and modelling ability before the final takes place on December 19.

The five challenge events earn the 117 contestants vital points on their journey to becoming Miss World.

Mr Rose added: “There will be nine of our family heading out to China for the finals on December 19 to support Alyssa, pictured right.. “We can’t wait to get out there. We will be wearing Bermuda shorts and waving a big Bermuda flag. It’s a very exciting time for our family.”
