Spike Lee

A documentary film that is shortlisted for the Academy Award for Best Documentary, and acclaimed director Spike Lee’s latest feature film, are to screen in Bermuda.

Cartel Land, by director Matthew Heineman, is a no-holds barred look at the journeys of two modern-day vigilante groups and their shared enemy — the murderous Mexican drug cartels.

Chi-Raq, by Mr Lee, features an all-star cast including Nick Cannon, Jennifer Hudson, Angela Bassett, Teyonah Paris, Wesley Snipes, Samuel L Jackson, John Cusack and Dave Chappelle.

The film, a searing satire of gun violence in America, tells the story of women on both sides of the gang divide in Chicago who swear off sex with their men until the violence stops.

The films will screen on Sunday January 17 in the Tradewinds Auditorium of the Bermuda Underwater Exploration Institute, Cartel Land at 3pm and Chi-Raq at 515pm. Both films are rated R.
