Pembroke man admits five drug offences

A 40-year-old Pembroke man has pleaded guilty to five charges under the Misuse of Drugs Act.

Tio Smith pleaded guilty to one count of cultivating cannabis, two counts of possessing a grinder, one count of possessing a pipe and one count of possessing a digital scale.

A separate count of possession of the controlled drug cannabis was dropped against the defendant.

The court heard how police officers gained entry to Smith’s residence at North Street on August 27, 2015 where they found seven cannabis plants under a tent, 17 cannabis plants under a television stand as well as the other items for intent to supply.

The plant material amounted to 17.84g of the controlled drug cannabis. Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo noted that the man’s residence was close to Dellwood Middle School.

Smith was bailed for $3,000 and will stand for sentencing on April 8.
