Charities benefit from silent auction

Wesley Methodist Church in Hamilton

A silent auction and a wine tasting evening, organised by Meet-a-Mum Bermuda, has raised some $5,000, which will be donated two local charities — Windreach Bermuda and the Wesley Methodist Church Food Hamper Programme.

MAMA Bermuda is a non-profit organisation whose mission is to connect families across the island and boasts over 300 members.

The group offers a variety of activities and services including weekly playgroups by parish, a monthly newsletter, weekly e-mail updates and fundraisers.

Windreach is a charitable organisation which opened in 1999 and helps those who have special needs.

Wesley Methodist Church Food Hamper Programme encourages parishioners to donate nonperishable

foods for the needy. Cash donations, such as the one MAMA raised, help to purchase supplies.

The food hamper is open every Wednesday evening for an hour. Those in need can come once a month to collect their hampers. Approximately 20 to 40 people are served every week.

“MAMA was pleased to have such great community support for our fundraiser event this year.

We were able to raise a lot of money for two very worthy causes and hope to expand upon this

throughout the year.” said Jessica McLennan, MAMA Bermuda president.
