Same-sex marriage referendum: the final tally

The count ended just before 4am today, with the No campaign scoring a resounding success despite fewer than 50 per cent of the electorate making an appearance at the polls.

The final numbers are:

Same-sex marriage

NO 14,192

YES 6,514

Same-sex civil unions

NO 13,003

YES 7,626

Total vote count percentage

46.89 (50 per cent required for a officially valid referendum)
