Young anglers hooked on fishing experience
More than 50 young people took to the ocean to compete in the 2016 Blue Waters Anglers Club’s annual Junior Fishing Tournament.
The event, which has been a fixture for around 50 years, provides children between the ages of 5 and 16 the opportunity to participate in the competition on a fishing boat.
A spokesman said: “This year the participants went on board the Jolly Roger fishing boat, which was paid for by the club. We catered to over 50 young adults on the day and awarded prizes in eight separate categories, with one male and one female winner of four age groups.
“In addition to the prizes awarded, the club held a barbecue for all of the little anglers, their supportive friends and family members, and the day concluded with each participant being provided with a school bag and school supplies.”
At the end of competition on September 3, it was Jamar Stovell, in the age 11 to 13 category, who pulled in the largest catch — a 21.8lbs barracuda — while Nevaen Nesbitt won the girls’ championship with a 3.7lbs yellow tail snapper.
Tyree Fox and NiahMiah Nesbitt won the 5 to 7 age category, while Jauza James and Raven Wellman took home the prizes in the 8 to 10 age category.
Antae Outerbridge and Jamar Stovell won the age 11 to 13 category, while Nakosi Edwards and Nuphisi Smith took top honours in the 14 to 16 age category.
