Authors and story tellers will be among the attractions at a children’s reading festival on Saturday.

The annual event, organised by the Bermuda Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, aims to promote literacy and provides a free book for youngsters up to Primary 6.

Literacy games, arts and crafts, face painting and fun castles will be part of the entertainment, while parents will have an opportunity to talk with experts in the literacy field, such as speech and language pathologists, reading specialists and learning support teachers.

Rosette Simmons, president of the local chapter, said in a statement: “The Bermuda Alumnae Chapter is proud to once again host our signature event, the Children’s Reading Festival.

“Reading is the pathway to learning, therefore we are happy to support parents and promote literacy in a fun, free environment. We thank all our sponsors who give generously so the event is free for the children who attend.”

The event will take place from 11am to 4pm at Victoria Park. Each child in attendance will receive a free book, snack and drink.

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc, is a public service organisation of college-educated women providing assistance and support in the community.
