The Corporation of St George is preparing for the Christmas season, and is inviting the public to join in the celebration.

Today, the Corporation is set to host its second annual Lighting of the Town event in King’s Square. Quinell Francis, mayor of St George, said: “The Lighting of the Town marks the start of the festive season and has become one of our signature events in the Town.

“The public is welcome to come out and enjoy the evening and spend a wonderful evening in St George to start their Christmas season.”

In addition to the formal lighting of the town by Ms Francis and Ginny Ferson, the Acting Governor, the event will feature performances by the Salvation Army Divisional Band, Richard Allen Church Liturgical Dancers and Their Majesties Choristers from St Peter’s Church

The mayor also noted that the St George Skates simulated ice rink will be open in Somers Gardens, and the major roadwork that has affected traffic on Water Street has been completed.

Festivities are set to begin at 6.30pm.
