The PLP has extended its condolences to the family and friends of Deshaun Jerry Berkley who was shot and killed outside Western Stars Sports Club early on Thursday.

“We mourn, along with the wider community and especially the Western Stars Sports Club Family, the violent death of another young, black man; a father, a son, a friend,” said shadow minister of national security Walter Roban.

“As Bermudians, as family, we must commit to addressing the underlying causes of these devastating incidents, which happen far too often.

“All of us, including the business community, must support each other, particularly the clubs who often bear the brunt of these tragedies. All of Bermuda wants to see the day when this long painful journey of violence will end. This will only happen through a united effort.

“We echo the call today by the leaders of the Dandy Town-Western Stars Club for witnesses to come forward to identify the perpetrator.

“There are not enough words to express our sadness over the death.”
