Community Education classes cancelled

Community Education classes for the winter term have been cancelled as the Department of Community and Cultural Affairs restructure its development programme.

“We will be assessing our offerings, policies and procedures to ensure the programme is functioning at its peak,” said a Department spokesperson. “We apologise for any disappointment caused to those who look forward to these classes each term and can assure the public that we will return in the spring with a wide variety of course offerings.

The Development Programme provides educational, social, and recreational activities and services for island residents.

However, the Government has suggested other organisations could offer alternative courses, and has provided the following list:

• For continuing education, persons can contact The Adult Education Centre, Care, Computer Services & Learning Centre, Bermuda College — Professional And Careers Education (Pace division).

• For education and computer courses, members of the public can contact Care. Computer Services/Care, Learning Centre, SocialLee Consulting, Professional And Careers Education (PACE Division) or Hart Education Consultants.

• For health, fitness and dance classes, persons can contact fitness clubs, Pembroke Community Centre, Bermuda Heart Foundation and CORE Heart HealthCentre, Berkeley Cultural Centre, Bermuda Diabetes Association Resource Centre, Lotus Mind Body Spirit Wellness Centre, Department of Health, United Dance Productions, In Motion School of Dance or Jacksons School of Dance.

• For leisure activities, persons can contact golf and tennis clubs, The National Sports Centre, WindReach Recreational Village or Bermuda National Library.

• For personal development, persons can contact the Family Learning Centre, Mirrors Programme, Scars, Red Cross, Bermuda Economic Development Corporation, Algoma’s School of Languages or Bermuda School of Music.

• For professional development, persons can also contact Bermuda Educator’s Council, Chamber of Commerce, Bermuda Employers Council or The Department of Workforce Development.

• For seniors’ programmes, persons can contact Age Concern Bermuda, seniors’ clubs or The Seniors’ Learning Centre.

• For youth development courses, contact Sandys Community Centre, The Centre, St George’s Community Centre, Youth Net, Youth-to-Youth, Oxford Learning Centre or The Centre for Talented Youth.
