The Corporation of Hamilton’s paid barrier system at City Hall car park appears to be on hold after a driver crashed through it earlier this evening.

A witness, who was unable to give a description of the car, reported hearing the collision shortly after 8pm as someone left the car park.

The gate, which was installed in August as part of an incentive for drivers to make shorter use of the facility, was left hanging open across the pavement at the west end of Victoria Street.
