Dispute affects health department division

A two-day work stoppage hit the vector control division of the Department of Health this week, with services subsequently returning to normal.

The industrial dispute affected vector control on Monday and Tuesday, according to a department spokeswoman, with the director meeting with a representative from the Bermuda Industrial Union to resolve the issues.

Vector control, which is part of the Environmental Health section, contains 20 employees charged with protecting public health through surveillance and control measures against disease carriers such as mosquitoes and rats. Sources told The Royal Gazette that the industrial action emanated from a dispute over a suspended member of staff. The BIU declined last night to comment on the matter.
