Pembroke man admits driving carelessly

A Pembroke man who caused a traffic collision at the junction of Cobbs Hill and Middle Road was this morning fined in Magistrates’ Court.

Noel Bascome, 62, pleaded guilty to a single charge of driving carelessly in an incident on December 5.

The court heard that Bascome was driving east along Middle Road when he attempted to pull into Cobbs Hill. As he did so, he crossed the middle line and his truck came in contact with a motorcyclist that was travelling along the road.

The female motorcyclist reportedly suffered bruising as a result of the incident, while her motorcycle suffered severe front end damage.

Addressing the court, Bascome said: “I wasn’t speeding, I just didn’t see her. I didn’t see her until she hit the truck and then I got out and helped her as best I could.”

Magistrate Khamisi Tokunbo fined Bascome $800 and issued him ten demerit points.
