Police use Taser during arrest

A 25-year-old man is in custody after police deployed a Taser yesterday afternoon.

The incident happened on Church Street at around 1pm but the circumstances surrounding the arrest were not clear.

The confrontation between police and the suspect reportedly started outside the Digicel building on Church Street before moving on to the road, outside Makin’ Waves. It attracted a crowd of bystanders and traffic had to be diverted around the scene.

“During the arrest a car window was damaged, a Taser was deployed and the suspect was arrested,” police said.

The man, believed to be from Devonshire, was arrested on suspicion of offences under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Police continue to investigate.
