The Bermuda Sailor’s Home will host a special service of celebration in honour of the Bermuda Tall Ships Regatta on Sunday.

BSH ships liaison officer John Dale said in a press release: “As a member of the Bermuda Maritime Convention, it is the Bermuda Sailor’s Home’s responsibility to provide and promote a safe haven for all seafarers.

“So it was an obvious fit for the Home to put its support behind the Tall Ships Bermuda Regatta. At the request of the organising committee we have agreed to host a special seafarer’s service on Sunday, June 4, the eve of the ships’ departure from Bermuda.”

The service is just part of the Home’s commitment to providing a sanctuary for the visiting crew members, according to Mr Dale.

“The Home has extended its days and hours of operation while the ships are in port,” he said.

The Home’s social venue, The Mariner’s Club, is also open daily, and in co-operation with Mad Hatters, is offering a lunch and evening pub menu for the crew and anyone interested in stopping by to meet the guests.

Honorary chaplain, the Reverend Norman Lynas, said: “The Bermuda Sailor’s Home has a very unique ecumenical relationship with both the Missions to Seafarers, and the Sailor’s Society, the two largest international organisations offering assistance and practical support to seafarers around the world.

“We are extremely proud of our association with both entities, and we take our role as the local branch of both very seriously. On Monday, June 5, 626 souls will go back out to sea and we want to offer each one of them the opportunity to give thanks and prepare for their onward journey.”

The service begins at 12.45pm and is open to all. For further information, call 295-5598 or e-mail bermudasailorshome@logic.bm.
