Down and out: Emirates Team Zealand capsizes in the Great Sound on a day of high winds
Emirates Team Zealand have endured a dramatic day on the water, recovering from a broken wing sail to beat Land Rover Bar in the Louis Vuitton America’s Cup Challenger Play-offs, only to capsize in their fourth encounter.
However, they still hold a 3-1 lead after the British team had to forfeit the first two races yesterday with a broken wing sail themselves.
With strong winds sweeping across the Great Sound — producing the fastest and most eventful races yet — SoftBank Team Japan got the better of the Swedish entry Artemis Racing twice to take a 3-1 lead.
The first teams to claim five victories will progress to the play-off finals, starting on Saturday.
And the winner of that series will earn the right to take on cup-holders Oracle Team USA.
