Island’s sixth road fatality for 2017 named

A 46-year-old man injured in a collision with a truck on Harrington Sound Road last month has died as a result of his injuries.

The rider, formally identified by police this afternoon as Kenneth Simmons, was seriously injured when the motorcycle he was riding struck a truck at around 11pm on May 19, near Odyssey Drive, Smith’s.

“He was initially treated in the Intensive Care Unit at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital before being airlifted overseas for further medical treatment,” a police spokesman said.

“However, Mr Simmons ultimately succumbed to his injuries while in hospital in the US and a family liaison officer has now been appointed to assist his family at this difficult time.”

Mr Simmons is the sixth road fatality for the year.

Police said the investigation into the crash is ongoing, urging any witnesses who have not yet come forward to do so by contacting the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788.
