Motorcyclist dies after Devonshire crash

A 63-year-old motorcyclist has died following a crash in Devonshire this afternoon, marking the island’s seventh road fatality this year.

His pillion passenger, a ten-year-old girl, was also injured and is now receiving treatment at King Edward VII Memorial Hospital, according to the Bermuda Police Service.

The collision involved a car and a rental motorcycle and happened on South Road, near the junction with Brimstone Hill, at about 5pm.

“Details are limited,” a police spokesman said. “However, initial information suggests that the male rental cycle rider sustained serious injuries and was taken to hospital via ambulance for treatment.

“The male rental cycle rider was later pronounced dead at the hospital. At last check the young female visitor was receiving treatment for her injuries and an update on her condition will be given in due course.”

Traffic diversions were in effect at the junctions of Tee Street and Brighton Hill Road while police examined the scene.

Any witnesses should contact the Roads Policing Unit on 247-1788.
