Attempted robbery on St Anne’s Road

An attack and attempted robbery took place in Southampton this evening. Police are appealing for witnesses.

A man was hit in the face with a suspected firearm and cut with a knife during an attempted robbery that took place on St Anne’s Road, Southampton this evening.

Police reported that at about 4pm, a 29 year-old man and his female companion were walking south near Henry VIII when two black males dressed in dark clothing and on a white motorcycle pulled alongside them.

The two males then demanded a bracelet from the man and a struggle ensued.

One of the suspects brandished what appeared to be a firearm and struck the victim in the face. The second suspect had a knife and cut the victim on the shoulder.

The injuries do not appear to be life threatening.

The victims ran towards Gibbs Hill Lighthouse and the two suspects escaped on the bike in an unknown direction.

The rider of the bike is described as a tall, thin light complexioned male and the passenger is dark complexioned and short.

Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who may have seen two males in the Southampton/Warwick area between 3.50pm and 5.30pm fitting the description to contact Detective Sargent Renay Rock on 295-0011.
