A man is expected before the courts after a traffic violation escalated into a lengthy police chase this morning.

A spokesman said that officers on patrol shortly after 7am along Kindley Field Road, St George’s attempted to stop the motorcyclist after spotting the offence.

Instead of pulling over, the rider accelerated — before circling the roundabout outside LF Wade International Airport, weaving in traffic, then mounting the sidewalk and heading west over the wrong side of the Bailey bridge onto the Causeway.

The chase continued over Blue Hole Hill where the rider again circled the roundabout and travelled against the flow of traffic.

The rider was pursued west briefly along North Shore Road before he circled back towards the Swizzle Inn roundabout, where he narrowly missed an oncoming vehicle as he negotiated the roundabout improperly onto Wilkinson Avenue.

The chase ended along Old Farm Road where police apprehended the driver. There were no injuries or damage to property.

Police apologised for any alarm caused to other drivers.
