Teaching seniors new technology
Young people became teachers to their elders yesterday as the island marked Safer Internet Day with tips especially for seniors.
Shurnett Caines, mother of national security minister Wayne Caines, thanked student Tatiana Butterfield for teaching her how to shop online, as well as helping her to find the flashlight on her mobile device.
Ms Caines said: “We take a longer time to catch on with things. It was great having her as my teacher.”
Marion Swan, who was paired with Jared Dunstan to learn about how to access games on her iPad and use of e-mail, said she was left “truly thankful” for the experience.
The day of online awareness is usually aimed at showing young people safe and positive uses for digital technology.
For the fourth annual event, the Bermuda Government chose seniors for a day of workshops, followed by a special session with volunteer schoolchildren.
