Killer dog is put down

Fatal attack: Venus was mauled to death on Tuesday (Photograph supplied)

A killer dog that savaged a family’s pet spaniel to death has been put down.

The news came after Cole Simons, a One Bermuda Alliance MP, said his family were heartbroken after their little spaniel was mauled by another dog.

Owner Sarah Tomlinson said in a Facebook post shared to Mr Simons’s profile that she was “very, deeply sorry” for what had happened.

Mrs Tomlinson wrote: “I am reeling. Just when things can’t get worse, they do. I am off island. I love Cole Simons and his wife and family. I am so very deeply sorry.

“My dog is being put to sleep as I type this. I am so very very sad.

“I hope Cole and others that have been hurt will forgive me.”

Mr Simons found Venus, his 12-year-old King Charles spaniel, dead in his backyard — with blood visible and evidence of another dog in the area on Tuesday.

Neighbours said they believed a dog owned by John Tomlinson, who lives near by, was responsible.

Mr Tomlinson declined to comment but his wife later confirmed the dog, a boxer, was her husband’s and added: “The dog will be euthanised as soon as possible.”

It is understood the dog was put down yesterday morning.
