Senators benefit from modernised chamber

Senators will return to a spruced-up chamber when they get back to work after Easter, Deputy Speaker Derrick Burgess told MPs last week.

“Major work” over Christmas transformed the former Supreme Court 2 in Sessions House, with microphones installed to allow the public to listen online.

Mr Burgess added the House and Grounds Committee is tasked with “urgently required renovation” and planned to convert a part of the library into an Opposition leader's office, similar to the one used by David Burt, the Premier, over the Easter break.

Mr Burgess said: “Additionally, the air conditioners on the roof are to be removed with major work to be carried out to address several leaks.”

Sessions House has been in use by the legislature since 1826, and plumbing issues and leaks have plagued the building in recent years.
