Reinsurance company Axis Capital donated cash to Meals on Wheels.

The charity provides nourishing meals four days a week to 180 people who are incapacitated in some way.

Laquita Philpott of the Axis charity committee, said: “We are delighted to support the important work of Meals on Wheels through this financial contribution to their programme.

“Meals on Wheels provides a vital need in the community and, for many, is the only option for a regular meal.

“We hope that this donation goes some way to helping Meals on Wheels continue its beneficial work in the community, and we are proud to be a corporate partner of theirs.”

The charity and insurance company declined to reveal the amount of the donation.

Jason Powell, vice-president of Meals on Wheels, said the meals help provide a good, balanced and healthy diet for clients, which can play an important role in a person’s ability to remain independent.

He said: “We are grateful to Axis Capital for its generous financial support of Meals on Wheels.

“Through their contribution, we will be able to continue to provide much more than just a nutritious meal as for many seniors; the trusted volunteer who shows up with a tasty meal and a warm smile may be the only person they see or speak with all day.

“This special delivery is something many of our clients really look forward to and the watchful eye that accompanies each meal delivery ensures that, in the case of an emergency or problem, the alarm will be raised and our seniors are not forgotten.”
