Bermudians are being reminded not to dump some boat materials with their regular trash.

The notice from the Ministry of Public Works comes ahead of Bermuda Heroes Weekend which is expected to involve much activity on the water.

A Government spokeswoman said this morning: “Marine flares, boat batteries and waste oil should never be included with household waste nor in bus stop, Parks Department or public dock waste bins.

“The composition of these items creates a health hazard for personas collecting from waste bins and for the terrestrial and marine environment.”

All hazardous materials should be taken to Tynes Bay and placed in the appropriate bins.

The spokeswoman added: “For flares, there is a bin located on the sidewalk outside of the main Tynes Bay building.

“Members of the public may drive up and deposit flares in the specially marked blue bin without checking in at the weighbridge.”

The drop-off is open from 8m to 6pm Monday to Friday, 7am to 7pm on Saturday and 1pm to 6pm on Sunday.
