Bermudian nominated for design award

Breakthrough talent: Catherine White (File photograph by David Oliver)

A London-based Bermudian interior designer is in line for a top industry award.

Catherine White has been nominated for industry magazine FX International’s design awards in the breakthrough talent category, which is decided by public vote.

Ms White said, if she wins, her work will be featured in the magazine, which would open up new professional opportunities.

She added: “There’s no physical recompense here, but it does add to your brand’s story and, in a way, that is really priceless.”

Ms White was at first nominated for the best retail space category for her work on the Vape Superstore in London.

Her entry failed to make the final shortlist, but she was invited to the November awards ceremony as a nominee in the breakthrough category and as a judge in other categories of the competition.

Ms White said: “I was totally surprised; it was a wonderful way to start my week.”

Now, Ms White’s former school, Bermuda High School in Hamilton, has added the FX International public voting page to the former pupil’s webpage.

She said: “It’s really great for the current generation to see what their alumni are doing.”

Ms White, although based overseas, has worked on several Bermudian projects, including the Alexandra Mosher Studio Jewellery store on Front Street, which won The Bermudian Magazine’s 2018 Building and Interior Design Award for commercial interior space.

Ms White said that design was in the blood; her father was an architect and her grandmother was an art historian.

The awards ceremony will be held on November 28 in the luxury Grosvenor hotel in London.
