Ship delayed

A delayed gravel ship is expected to arrive in the East End this morning.

Joe Simas, vice-president of marine operations at shipping firm Meyer Group, said that the Seattle, loaded with material for the Bermuda Government, had been at Murray's Anchorage since Sunday.

He added: “The ship's been delayed over 24 hours now.

“Tomorrow it will be almost 48 hours.”

Mr Simas said the delay was not due to a problem with the vessel.

He explained that the delay was caused by a mechanical problem with one of the two tugboats needed to guide the ship into Penno's Wharf.

He added that work had been carried out yesterday to fix the problem.

Mr Simas said the Seattle was expected to arrive at 7am.

He added: “As long at the tug works, we'll have no issues.”
