Camp students told: make your dreams happen

The Mirrors youth development programme has celebrated the graduation of 33 young people from its six-day senior “supercamp” programme.

The closing ceremony on Sunday at the Willowbank resort in Sandys was attended by Michael Weeks, the Minister of Social Development and Sports.

The camp offered social and emotional skills, as well as learning techniques based on neuroscience.

They are given in tandem with the Quantum Learning Network, an international educational programme that was taken up by Mirrors in September 2016.

Cohort 14 started with an enrolment, and Mr Weeks said they would head next to the eight-month “follow through” — where participants meet with their volunteer life coach to work on the personal goals developed at camp.

Mr Weeks congratulated participants, aged 14 to 19, adding: “Continue to match behaviour and values, learn from mistakes, speak honestly and kindly, make the most of every moment, make your dreams happen, take responsibility for actions, be willing to do things differently and live your best life.”

The minister thanked volunteers for giving up ten days, as well as the life coaches for their service over the next eight months.

Before their closing ceremony, students had the chance to share their personal growth plans to the gathering.

Additionally, 36 adults took a one-day workshop designed for parents of students.

The Mirrors Programme started in Bermuda in 1997. To find out more, visit www.mirrors.bm.
