Government is to begin repairing and replacing “aged and vulnerable” water mains next Tuesday in Devonshire, Smith’s and Hamilton Parish.

The work is expected to continue for three months and could cause service interruptions for properties receiving piped government water along Middle Road, Fort Hill Road and Watlington Road East.

According to the Ministry of Public Works, water mains in the area have consistently and frequently failed over the past two years

The works will involve scheduled periodic shut downs of the piped water service on a weekly basis. During each week of the construction period, the system will be shut down on Tuesdays and reinstated on Fridays.

This will allow for the works to be completed, and for customers to obtain water during this period as well.

Lieutenant-Colonel David Burch, Minister of Public Works, said: “While we understand and apologise for the inconvenience that this work will cause, customers can be assured that we are endeavouring to minimise its impact with this schedule.”

The piped water customers in Devonshire, Smith’s and Hamilton Parish receive a top up supply and are not a direct feed to internal plumbing.

Essentially, no one being affected is directly connected to internal plumbing but rather receive a top up supply.

If affected residents require a topped up water supply during the time the mains are off, they are encouraged to contact water trucking companies who will be available to assist.

The ministry is minimising the down time as much as possible.

Residents in the Alexandra Road, Devonshire area will not be affected by the works.
