Docksider bar beefs up security

The Docksider Pub & Restaurant

A bar closed by police after a fight this year has beefed up its security.

Reed Young, the owner of the Docksider Pub & Restaurant on Front Street, told the Liquor Licensing Authority yesterday that he had hired a new security firm to reduce the risk of trouble. He added that he had made every effort to guarantee a high level of safety.

Mr Young said there was a security guard on duty every night and there could be up to seven on duty at weekends, depending on the number of people in the bar.

He was speaking after he was questioned by the authority about measures designed to prevent disturbances at Docksider.

He added: “We do a little more diligence about who we allow to have parties in the back.”

Mr Young highlighted the bar’s “great camera coverage” and that there were at least 28 CCTV cameras in operation.

Magistrate Maxanne Anderson heard that Mr Young had worked with the police since the fight to boost security. Docksider was closed by the police for 24 hours after a fight on January 19.
