Pair arrested after crashes

Two men were arrested in connection with two separate crashes in Devonshire yesterday afternoon, police announced today.

Police and paramedics were called to a three-vehicle crash on North Shore Road at about 5.50pm. A police spokesman said: “It appears that a car was being driven in the eastbound lane of North Shore Road followed by a motorcyclist — and another car was being driven in the opposite direction when the collision occurred in the vicinity of Loyal Hill.”

He added that both cars were carrying the driver plus one passenger.

The spokesman said: “All were hurt, as well as the motorcyclist”.

The five people were all taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

The spokesman said: “The driver of the westbound car, said to be a 45-year-old Pembroke man, was later arrested on suspicion of causing injury by careless driving.”

He said that no injuries had been reported after a separate two-car crash about 30 minutes later.

Police and paramedics were called to the crash on Middle Road, near Chaingate Hill, at about 6.20pm.

The spokesman said: “It appears that one car was being driven along the westbound lane of Middle Road and the other car involved was being driven in the opposite direction when the collision occurred in the vicinity of Somersfield Academy.

“Apparently the collision caused the westbound vehicle to overturn and end up on its side.”

He added: “The driver of the westbound car, said to be a 63-year-old Southampton man, was later arrested on suspicion of impaired driving.”

Anyone with information on either crash is asked to contact police on 295-0011.
